  1. But Jesus said to Philip, “Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?” John 14:9

This is not the language of a disguise. Only three disciples (not including Philip) were granted the vision of the transfiguration. Yet Jesus makes this amazing statement.

Depicting Jesus’ humanity is depicting God, as far as those who saw Jesus in the flesh were able to see it. And by Jesus’ own words, that is real apprehension of God. As John of Damascus said, “I do not worship matter, I worship God who became matter.”
